The company was founded in 2001 by Steve Emerson, who had previously been head designer at Duluth Pack for more than twenty years. After seven years, the company had to close its doors in September 2008 due to the economic downturn. A year later, Frost River was revived under the leadership of Benson and Rinerson and continued its tradition of providing high-quality, durable, American-made luggage.
