On the Outer Hebrides, 60 km off the west coast of Scotland, Harris Tweeds made of pure new wool yarns, dyed locally, are still woven by hand at home on handlooms, resulting in narrow fabric widths. The wool fibres are dyed and mixed with up to eight colours before spinning is started, offering the unique colour variation of Harris Tweeds already in the melange yarn.
